Our Fabulous Camp Design!

Normally I’d hesitate to show this on my website because I like to keep camp things a surprise for the girls and you never know if it’d get around, but the camp kick-off is on Thursday and they’ll see the image there so I couldn’t help myself from saying “look at this!”  because I am so thrilled with our camp t-shirt/other things design!  The image belongs to Cindy from Scherenschnitte, a super talented paper cutter who gave me permission to use the image.  And Kevin Walton from my ward flipped, filled, blew up, and layed it out with the wording.  The final product blew my mind with awesome-ness!

February’s Book

In February I read No One Can Take Your Place by Sheri Dew.  I chose it entirely because it was a wedding gift from our singles ward bishopric and I never read it.  Oops!

I found that Elder Scott’s book changed me a lot more than this one.  It invited way more introspection and inspiration.   Most of my favorite parts were when she was quoting a prophet and I didn’t have an “aha” moment with Sister Dew’s book until chapter seven.  I’m still trying to decide how much of that was based on my attitude and how much was the book.  Nevertheless, I found some good stuff, and chapter ten on leadership was really phenominal!

Here are some of my favorite parts of No One Can Take Your Place:

“The mortal experience is filled with gaps:  between what we know and what we do, between the ways of God and the ways of man, between preaching and practicing,…between what we know to be true and how willing we are to stand up for what we believe,…and on it goes.  For each of us, there are gaps with which to deal…Now, before we go on, let me clarify that I am not calling for some kind of unrealistic expectation of perfection that only leaves us feeling that we’re falling short.  Gaps are a fundamental mortal condition, and thus the process of closing those gaps is a fundamental mortal exercise.  In fact, there is reason to think of conversion…as the process of narrowing and eventually closing gaps.  True conversion takes a lifetime, and perhaps longer.”

“Pure leaders love the people they lead, believe in the people they lead, champion and build up the people they lead, and are determined to help them be more and do more than they could ever be or do on their own.  Seeing others progress is the motive of Pure Leaders.  it is what drives them.”

Quoting President Hinckley, “You are good.  But it is not enough just to be good.  You must be good for something.  The world must be a better place for your presence.  And that good that is in you must be spread to others.  i do not suppose that any of us here will be remembered a century from now.  But in this world so filled with problems, so constantly threatened by dark and evil challenges, you can and must rise above mediocrity, above indifference.  You can become involved and speak with a strong voice for that which is right.”
