In a moment, my life is changed forever.

November 13, 2009

I’ve run down the stairs of my house hundreds of times without an incident.  I never thought there was any risk involved in doing so.  That all changed this morning when I was nearly to the bottom and suddenly felt my cranium crash against something very hard.  (My severely impaired vision without glasses probably didn’t help.)  That “something” was the ceiling above the staircase.  (See below)

Figure A:

In case it’s not clear, that dent there is the very corner where the ceiling meets the wall above.  I think they put some kind of metal at the corners to make a nice rounded effect.  There are two semi-ovalular (I possibly made that word up) cracks in the paint radiating out from there.  I left quite an impression.

So, that hurt.  And it sucks about the damage.  But what’s worse… now I’m all paranoid about it!  Four or five times today, I have caught myself running down those stairs, suddenly remembered the tragedy of this morning, and freaked out trying to slow myself down and protect my head.  TWO of those times, I actually caused myself to slip and fall, hurting myself in otherwise.  (I’m not a klutz.  These are unreasonable circumstances.)

Anyway, yeah, now something that I’ve done hundreds of times and continue doing constantly out of habit has become a source of pain, fear, and frustration for me.  I hope this brightens up your day!

Closet Organization

February 2, 2009

One of my goals for this year is to get our house organized.  It’s no secret to people who live in Loch Lomond that a big negative of most of the houses is lack of storage space.  Our first step is the yellow room, where Kyle will move sometime this summer and we started with a closet organizing system.  So we installed it this weekend, and I think it’ll be great for our needs (Kyle’s clothes and some toys).  Brad thinks it looks cheap and likes the original closet better.  We need honest opinions from our readers about our closet so here is a picture of each, Please let us know what you think:

I’m an American Girl

May 27, 2008

Brad might cringe when he sees this post, but I LOVE American Girl Dolls!  I grew up with Felicity and Samantha, and I’m thinking, once a fan, always a fan.  That’s why I dragged Brad into the American Girls Store on Fifth Avenue when we were in New York where I saw their newest historical character, Julie, from the 1970s.  I love love love her!  I think she’s awesome!  Even as an adult, if I received her for Christmas, I would be one happy girl.  Isn’t she just divine?

A Little Bit O’Kyle

April 14, 2008

Edit: I added some new pictures of Kyle that I promised to take this week! This is one of my favorites:

It’s like a supermodel pose!  He’s trying to show off that sexy belly!  He lifts up his shirt and points to his belly when ever we ask, “Where’s your belly?”  It’s super cute

I thought it was about time for some new pictures so I’ll take my camera with me wherever we go this week!  Kyle’s taken to taking off his shirt and climbing on the table.  If he finds a way up there, he’ll climb up and whine for me to take him down so he can climb up again, for hours.  What in the world?

Snowmobiling Trip

December 18, 2007

Every year Brad’s work takes employees and their spouses on a snowmobiling trip and we were unlucky enough to miss the first year because Brad was training in California, and also the second year because I was five days overdue with Kyle. This year was our first chance to go! And do you think we let our son’s birthday get in the way? Nope. Neither of us had been snowmobiling before and it was a lot of fun! Brad got himself caught pretty bad in some powder once, but made up for that beginner’s mistake with some pretty awesome jumps.  We’re spoiled by Brad’s work, seriously.   Yay Intuit!

Christmas Lights

December 9, 2007

Well, it’s not much, but we’ve put up some Christmas lights on our bushes.  Many thanks to Bill and Angie for providing these for us.  (They were going to be going to DI otherwise.)

We would have put up a picture sooner, but I couldn’t hold the camera steady enough for a non-blurry night shot.  So thanks also to Mike from work for letting me borrow his tripod.

We’re So Handy!

April 8, 2007

Light   Room   Washer

We’re getting into homeownership with the completion of home improvement projects number one and two!  The master in our house used to be green (not the kind of green that makes me think less of the owners, but still less than acceptable) and I’ve spent the last week painting it a cream color.  We were glad when it was finally done and we were able to move into our bedroom!  Unfortunately, there’s still some green around the edges where the previous owners did a bad paint job and got some color on the ceiling or moulding.  We’ll have to fix that eventually.  We also replaced the fluorescent light in our kitchen which made me want to die with a cute little track lighting type fixture.  Yay for home improvement!
